Aviation  Day  2008

This event was started in 1991...

I was hang gliding at the time and there was a day that a student and myself were going to do a tandem balloon drop (my second balloon drop) and called together a bunch of other hang glider pilots and balloon pilots to get together and make it a fun breakfast get together...Well to make a short story long, two people told two people that told two people and the morning of the drop there were a lot of people at the Siskiyou county airport having more fun that should be allowed by law...Rides were given (hang glider, sailplane, helicopter and sky diving) flyer bys dropped in and breakfast was had and I did a tandem balloon drop from 12,000 feet... That is a whole 'nother story...

Little did I know that a couple of weeks later I would have a serious accident costing the life of a student passenger and change my life forever...

It is now the day after and it is story time...

Take your shoes off and put on my shoes, enjoy the ride...

I have had this onemanairshow plan for sometime now and I have been putting together parts of the puzzle for success.

IT WORKED!!!

I had contacted Klamath Falls regarding their airshow coming up in late June with the Thunderbirds...I had flown the Klamath Falls airshow back in 1989 or '90 with my hang glider and it was great!!! Since my accident things are different...I now fly a thunderbird F16 with my RealFlight simulator tied to my service dog......I have four F16s in trail formation looping and twisting with red, white and blue smoke in my show now, this has gotta be a sign...A quick friendly phone call and a request to write up my show and email it to him and I was floating on cloud nine...To think that I may get back in to my airshow career with the thunderbirds was a dream come true. I have not been "public" with my flying since my accident back in '91 and my brain injury once again started pulsing in the right direction...So much to think about, so much stuff to pull together, so many things and scenarios at the same time causing the neurons in my brain to bump into each other in their high speed journey through my brain...

   It was great...I AM BACK!!!

No return phone call, no returned email, the old brain started to leak again...

Enter Dave and Christine...Whoops...to fast...Buddy Bob called and said did you hear about Aviation day in Montague?  "Interesting you say that" I said...I had even done an internet search the day before in search of that information...I didn't find a date but I did find some airport information and a name and a phone number... I left that web page up on my computer screen all day, I just may call and find out if the event has all ready happened or not...I dilly-dallied...and put off the phone call as long as I could with Klamath Falls still shorting out my brain, thanks guys :-(

   Wow...This story is almost over...

Bottom line...I called Shasta Valley Aviation and talked to Dave (a good name by the way:) One friendly phone call later and an invite to show up the day after tomorrow early and my brain started its own internal heartbeat once again...

Thank you Dave and Christine, the new (6years) FBO...

I could now go on and on about these quality people but instead I'll just let you meet them and find out for yourself...

I HAD TO GET READY!!!

I had a day to get ready and with my cranial neurons breaking the sound barrier every other breath, it seemed like I had bitten off more than I could swallow...I could chew on it all I wanted but I had to swallow and take that first step...Hmmm he said aloud to himself...kinda like hang gliding at its finest, that first step...

I have had many first steps, some of them took me straight up a mile and others steps sent me miles from home...

I just Love Moot points...

Truck got ready, camper got ready, trailer got ready, coffee got ready...Me and my Service Dog Eddy were going to do an airshow in the morning...

Below are some pictures of the day... I could have had more but I was busy meeting and talking with other airshow lovers...

I AM BACK!!!  I had a Great day...Thank you people...

Left and below...

This is my setup...Truck, camper and trailer.

Air-showing anywhere anytime I want...

Flying anything I desire...

upside down or right side up...

Its my airshow and I'll fly as I want to :-)

If I were "younger" I'd barnstorm across the country staying at campgrounds, airports and model airplane events doing private airshows and meeting thousands of like minded persons and passing on a bit of service dog education along the way...but...

I have discovered dirty tennis balls, butterfly shadows and crafty lizards with my dogs in my front yard...That is spelled CONTENTMENT...

BTW...OneManAirshow franchises available at a good price...Get yours now and together we will "take over the world"...

This is looking North from where I was setup...

I have had a helicopter ride with my hang glider as cargo and set down at the top of those mountains in the background, to the right, and I have foot launched off a dirt road/cliff and soared 2500 feet above those mountains and  danced with a cloud before landing back at the big airport next to my truck, That was a memory that is lodged somewhere in the 'ol brain...forever...

Pretty Huh :?)

This was with the EAA people...

Left and Below...

This is a good look inside my hanger on wheels...

I have a very fast laptop in the foreground with RealFlight 3.5 and 4 installed...

The big monitor above the laptop is 28 inches...

In the front of the trailer I have two fast laptops that run to two 19 inch monitors that are networked together thus allowing two people to fly side by side in their own planes.

I also have those two laptops running DVD's and videos of flying...

Also a fishing pole, a tank of helium and some big balloons...I can drop paper airplanes from hundreds of feet...sometimes they just disappear...

oh yeah, I have two Sears work benches for building /repairing radio control planes...

The Plane for the day was a C-130 with the coast guard paint scheme...

I met a lot of people on this Airshow Saturday yet I remember no names,

sorry folks...

BUT!!!

I do remember Connor...

This little guy just may be world champion some day and I have a pictures of his thumbs from the beginning...

He did Great...

Father and son...As it should be...

Pay attention guys...

Connor had the biggest audience of the day...

The next four pictures are Larry's flying machine...Larry is in the yellow shirt...

DUH...

Who doesn't coordinate dressing with their airplane :-)

The nose of his plane says it all about Larry, he is one of the happiest people that I know and I just have to give him a plug...

Its a bird...

Its a plane...

Its LARRY...

This is what it would look like if you were one of these stranded people waiting for Larry to come fix your car and if Larry was flying in to save the day...

Mission Complete...

 off to the sunset...

 wherever that is...

This is a BYP, (basic yellow plane)...

I didn't get many pictures this day but I did get this one...pretty huh :?)

The above two pictures

Our Siskiyou County's Sheriff's office sent a deputy dog for a demo, they are in the center of the crowd doing their thing in the picture on the left... Eddy and I hung back at the trailer staying out of the way...

Enter the digital camera with a 16x zoom lens for the picture on the right, hmmm, kinda looks like my ex-wife, gotcha...

;-)
